Track time

Absence, vacation, and sick leave

Request time away so calendars, balances, and tracking expectations stay correct.

Where to find it

Time → Absence.

Main flows there: Request vacation, Use time-for-time, and Sick leave.

Vacation

  1. Open Absence and start Request vacation.
  2. Pick dates and add a reason (needed for review).
  3. Submit. You can request more hours than your current balance; the form warns you, and a manager decides.
  4. Hours book as vacation after manager approval. Approved vacation deducts from your vacation balance (the balance can go negative if they approve an over-balance request).

Holidays that fall inside the range are skipped and not counted as vacation days. Vacation balance comes from the work profile / contract, not from the holiday calendar.

Freelancer-style setups may not get vacation entitlement. The product points those users to time-for-time and sick leave instead.

Sick leave

Use Sick leave when you can’t work because of illness. A manager approves before it appears on the calendar. It does not spend vacation or time-for-time balance.

Time-for-time leave

Planned leave from your compensation balance is under Use time-for-time on Absence (and the Time-for-time area). See the time-for-time guide.

Common mistakes

  • Booking vacation that includes public holidays and wondering why day counts differ: holidays in range are not counted.
  • Using sick leave for planned personal time: use vacation or time-for-time instead.
  • Expecting holidays settings to top up vacation days: they don’t.
